The Referee Has the Power to Enforce the Boxing Rules

The boxing referee has many roles that encompass almost every aspect of a boxing match. In the past, referees even were involved in judging the fight. But in the past 20 years, that role has been gradually eliminated because of fears of fixing. Currently, the main role of the referee is to simply enforce the rules. Referees have the following roles: Gives instructions to both boxers before the fight. Determines when to start or stop a count when a fighter is down. Determines when a foul is so egregious that a warning should be given or points taken away. Signal when the round is over. Determines when one fighter's health will be endangered by more blows and thus, stops the fight. The boxing referee have to make sure that boxer doesn't hit his opponent below the belt, hold, trip, kick, headbutt, wrestle, bite, spit on, or push your opponent. The Referee's job is look out for boxers hitting with their head, shoulder, forearm, or elbow, with an open glove, the inside of the glove, the wrist, throw a backhander or use the side of the hand. The Referee eyes have to on each boxers making sure that they cannot punch their opponent's back, hit the back of his head or neck (this act is known as rabbit punch), or on the kidneys (kidney punch).

The Referee Can Disqualify A Boxer For Landing A Rabbit Punch

In boxing the referee in the ring is the man that has the power to stop a fight or to disqualify a boxer if he see fit especially, if the boxer is constantly breaking the rules such as throwing a punch while holding on to the ropes to gain leverage or holding on to the other fighter and hitting him at the same time, ducking so low that your head is below his opponent's belt line. All the above the boxing referee got to watch out for in his line of duty as a boxing official. When the referee breaks the fighters from a clinch, they each have to take a full step backwards. If while one of the fighter quickly hit his opponent. That's called "hitting on the break" and that is a illegal blow worthy of disqualification. Some boxers will accidentally spit out his mouthpiece on purpose just to get a rest. That is against the rule also. When a boxer scores a knockdown that boxer must immediately go to the farthest neutral corner while the referee takes up the count. If a boxer "floor" his opponent, he should not hit him when he's on the canvas. A floored boxer has up to ten seconds to get back up on his feet before losing the bout by knockout. A boxer who is knocked down cannot be saved by the bell in any round, but that is depending upon the local jurisdiction's rules.

If a Boxer is Punched Out of the Ring: He Must Not Be Assisted Back Into the Ring

A boxer who is hit with an accidental low blow has up to five minutes to recover. If the boxer cannot continue after five minutes, that is considered knocked out. If the foul results in an injury that causes the fight to end immediately, the boxer who committed the foul is disqualified forthwith, no arguing. If the foul causes an injury but the bout continues, the referee orders the judges to deduct two points from the boxer who caused the injury.  If an unintentional foul causes the bout to be stopped immediately, the bout is ruled a "no decision" if four rounds have not been fully completed. If the bout was scheduled for four rounds, then three rounds must have been completed. If four rounds have been completed, the judges' scorecards are tallied and the fighter who is ahead on points is awarded a technical decision. If the scores are even, it will be called a "technical draw." If a boxer is knocked out of the ring, he gets a count of 20 to get back in and on his feet. No one must assist the boxer.

It Shall Be The Power Of The Referee To Give His Award

In some jurisdictions the standing mandatory eight-count or the three knockdown rule is effective. In other jurisdictions, only the referee can stop the bout. Referring back to The Marquis of Queensberry Rule from the previous page. The Queensbury Rules states, that if one man fails to come to scratch in the ten seconds allowed, it shall be in the power of the referee to give his award in favour of the other man. In the ring the referee is the main man who makes the decision and his word must be obeyed at all times. During a boxing match, if a fighter is hanging on the ropes in a helpless state, with his toes off the ground. According to the rules, he shall be considered down as if he had been knocked down by the other fighter. No seconds or any other person to be allowed in the ring during the rounds. Should the contest be stopped by any unavoidable interference, the referee is to name the time and place as soon as possible for finishing the contest, so that the match must be won and lost.

Boxing Iin America Was Quite Infrequent

Unless the backers of both men agree to draw the stakes. The gloves to be fair sized boxing gloves of the best quality, and new. Should a glove burst, or come off, it must be replaced to the referee's satisfaction. A man on one knee is considered down, and if struck is entitled to the stakes. No shoes or boots with springs allowed. The contest in all other respects to be governed by the revised rules of the London Prize Ring. The history of boxing, is also more or less the history of the early years in America. While fighting was common on the American frontier, boxing in itself in America was an infrequent past time.
