As a result of this fight, Muhammad Ali was awarded the 1974 Hickok Belt as top professional athlete of the year and Sports Illustrated magazine Sportsman of the Year award. In 1975, Ali defeated Joe Frazier once more in the Thrilla In Manila in the Philippines. This fight surpassed their earlier bouts and became one of the most well-known heavyweight fights ever. After 14 gruelling rounds, Frazier's trainer Eddie Futch refused to allow Frazier to continue, and Ali was the winner by a TKO. Ali fights with Frazier are widely considered among the greatest in boxing history. Ring Magazine called this bout of 1975. The Fight of the Year, Muhammad Ali Rope-a-Dope fight had earned that distinction. In that fight Muhammad Ali soaked up some very hard blows to the body. Angelo Merena born 1923 better known in the boxing world circle as Angelo Dundee. Dundee was Muhammad Ali trainer from 1960. Angelo Dundee was first hired by bunch of millionaires to train the young Cassius Clay.

Boxing Most Famous Ring Duo: Muhammad Ali and Angelo Dundee

Dundee remained in Ali's corner until his fight with Larry Holmes. .. Angelo Dundee shot into national heroic fame when Ali the known as Cassius Clay wrenched the world Heavyweight title from Sonny Liston. in the return match boxing as Muhammad Ali, he had become a member of a radical, black Muslim group after he won the world heavyweight title from Liston.  Ali refused to let Dundee, a white man, go. Elijah Muhammad, a black Muslim pressured Ali a great deal.  The Muslim set was hell bent on trying to separate Angelo Dundee from Ali, but Muhammad Ali blatantly refused. Ali knew the he and Angelo Dundee together, they  had built up good relations between Ali the Boxer and Dundee the Trainer. It was a relation that  transcended both their jobs. Both of them became exceptionally  good friends and the magical features of Angelo Dundee was the way he made everyone he met, always happy to meet him.  Dundee: "Any fighter didn't like Muhammad Ali Should Have His Head Examined."

In a 21-year partnership which impacted the far reaches of the world, both names will forever leave an indelibly print that will last through the eons of time generations upon generations will know of the history the two most famous duo in boxing. Angelo Dundee and Muhammad. The  only time Angelo Dundee hadn't been in Ali's corner was when Ali fought Jimmy Ellis. Dundee felt that Jimmy Ellis was in needs more organisation more than Muhammad Ali. Angelo was trainer of Ali and he was the corner man for Jimmy Ellis. Dundee, is  quick thinker and  a master at motivating fighters. Dundee once said: Any fighter didn't like Muhammad Ali should have his head examined, because Ali did so much for boxing.” Without Angelo Dundee things would’ve been vastly different for Ali. Muhammad Ali owes him a huge debt for the manner in which he provided career changing assistance while doing his stuff in the corner. Angelo Dundee gave Ali invaluably aid on a number of occasions. In fact, the legend of The Greatest wouldn’t, in all likelihood, wouldn't have even been born if it weren’t for the master mind of Angelo Dundee. Everyone in boxing including boxing fans knew of the Sonny Liston episode in their first fight. The young Cassius Clay, as he was then known, was all set to pull out of the fight at the end of the fourth round due to problems with his vision.

Angelo Dundee, Just About Shoved Cassius Clay Out For Round Five Against Liston

Cassius Clay shouted at Angelo Dundee to take his gloves off so he could prove to the world there was “dirty work afoot”. Only thanks to Dundee’s cool and experience did the fight not end with Liston the victor. Sonny may well have had some sort of illegal stuff on his gloves, but the fact is that if Clay had quit there would never have been a rematch and an all too receptive public would have believed the champ’s accusations of Clay being a coward. Sonny was no fool, in reality he would never have gone near this fast, sharp punching boxer again, for fear of certain defeat. The Muhammad Ali that we all revere so much today would not have existed, but for the quick reactions of his brilliant and quick thinking Angelo Dundee, just about shoved Cassius Clay out for round five, the Muhammad Ali legend would not have come into flower and bear fruits. Angelo Dundee's magic couldn't have been more evident than when he fought Ernie Shavers in 1977 when Ali was a battle worn fighter at 35 he needed that extra help to prevail against the dangerous punching power of Ernie Shavers, The quick witted  Angelo Dundee was there to motivate Ali into winning a close decision fight. Of course,  Muhammad Ali has become one of the most remarkable personalities of our time and the greatest sportsman ever to walk the face of this earth.
