Cassius Marcellus Clay Helped draft the Emancipation Proclamation

The True American to stir the Ire, conscience and vote of the white working class. Was nominated for President by acclamation at the Convention and deferred to Lincoln. He drew record crowds to speak on Lincoln's behalf through Mary Todd was Lincoln's most trusted advisor. Cassius Marcellus Clay, gave Abraham Lincoln critically needed financial support and helped Abraham Lincoln draft the Emancipation Proclamation. Cassius Marcellus Clay should have been Vice President or Secretary of War, but instead  he took up the post as the United States of America Ambassador to Russia. Initiated and consummated the purchase of Alaska, no money down and interest only. For this he got the Russian Navy to anchor ships in United States harbours, warning Europe to stay out of the US war! Cassius Clay was not  without his usual quota of critics, just like any other person in politics. But of course, bigotry takes numerous forms and shapes. One must examine all aspects of it, even those which can blind a people to the truth that they are unable to see a hero before their very eyes.

There is also no doubt that Cassius Marcellus Clay's speeches in New York churches where he drew the biggest crowd ever assembled at that time, and throughout the rest of the northern states did influence legislation creating 965 brand new elementary schools and even universities such as Howard, Atlanta, Hampton and Fisk, all for the 97% of the freed blacks which were so illiterate they could not even sign their name and made their mark usually with an X. On examination of his life and the era in which he had lived one can only wonder at the state of America today had he not existed. Black supremists will label him a bigot, accusing him of making statements which belittled the black man. Others will say he was a saviour of the black people and that he held views that were years ahead of his time, Most will declare Cassius Marcellus Clay Snr, a prophet.

Cassius Marcellus Clay, Was Known As "The Lion of Whitehall

Cassius Marcellus Clay, was known as "The Lion of Whitehall," was born in Madison County, Kentucky USA on the 19th of October 1810. Cassius  Marcellus Clay Jnr was 93 years of age when he died on the 22nd of July 1903. Cassius Clay had sponsored his friend the right Rev. John G. Fee's abolitionist ministry in Madison County, Kentucky, and indirectly contributed to Fee's founding of the town of Berea and of Berea College. During the Wickliffe Garret Davis debate at Russell's Cave Spring in 1843, Cassius Clay was attacked by an hired assassin named Samuel Brown. Samuel Brown shot Clay in the chest, but Clay defended himself vigorously, cutting his attacker's nose off and cutting out an eye with a Bowie knife. The helpers who carried Clay away were astonished to find that Clay's knife scabbard which he had kept strapped to his chest had protected him from Brown's bullet.

Cassius Marcellus Clay Was the Proprietor of A Publishing Company

Cassius Marcellus Clay was tried for mayhem and found not guilty. Cassius Marcellus Clay was a colourful and outspoken character and because of his outspoken views on slavery. his career was often filled with violence. Cassius Marcellus Clay was the proprietor of a publishing company and was quite an outspoken emancipationist through his publishing company. He published the True American, an antislavery newspaper in Lexington, Kentucky her was forced to close his publishing company. Cassius Clay then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he continued with his publishing company and has been chronicled in both of his autobiographies.

The Source of the Name Cassius Marcellus Clay

The former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Muhammad Ali Christian name was Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. named after his father, Cassius Marcellus Clay, Snr. But the origination of  Muhammad Ali Christian name was derived from his Great grandfather who was given the name after his slave master a white American Cassius Marcellus Clay Snr, born in Madison County, Kentucky USA on the 19th of October 1810. Cassius Marcellus Clay of Madison County, Kentucky, freed Muhammad Ali's great grandfather. His father's name was Green Clay. Green Clay a Kentuckian who served as a  soldier in the war of 1812. Clay  was educated at Centre College, Danville, Kentucky, and at Yale, where he graduated in 1832. He died 22nd July 1903.
